1) How do you find Oxford life vs your initial expectation?
Oxford has surpassed all my expectations. Academically, it's everything I hoped for and more. The professors are highly approachable, and there are numerous conferences to attend. Socially, there’s a robust community support network. I can connect with people from diverse backgrounds, like COSF scholars and fellowship recipients. Overall, it's been an incredibly enriching experience.
2) How do you compare Oxford vs China schools?
I completed both my undergraduate and master’s studies in China, where the terms are longer, and the workload is more intense. In addition to their academic responsibilities, postgraduates in China often must handle administrative tasks like applying for funding or managing projects. Oxford, on the other hand, has shorter terms and offers students more freedom and time, which is ideal for self-motivated individuals. The College system here also fosters a strong sense of community.
3) What are the main difficulties you encountered?
Casual English can be challenging, especially with slang and cultural references. I sometimes miss the jokes people make. But as time goes by, I feel like I'm making progress.
4) How did COSF help you?
COSF offers more than just financial support; it provides a vibrant community and a wide alumni network. Engaging with many scholars allows me to learn from their experiences. I also appreciate the ongoing dialogues with sponsors. This all helps create a strong sense of belonging for us.
5) What is your plan after graduation?
My studies at Oxford have significantly advanced my research skills. I plan to return to China to continue my medical practice while focusing on medical research
