Wang Family Foundation - Interview with Anna Zhao

Anna Jin Xiang Zhao, 1997 Louey Scholar, one of our PIF founders, has set up Wang Family Foundation within the scholarship to award one outstanding student for their post graduate degree each year. We had a mini interview with her on her thoughts for such generous philanthropy.

Why have you decided to make a significant contribution for pay it forward scholarship and set up the Wang Family Foundation?

Receiving the William Louey scholarship changed my life forever. I achieved things that I never thought I could achieve before. I feel extremely grateful for his generosity. William always said to us, if you become successful, please don't pay it back but pay it forward and make the world better. I consider that my duty and my mission in life. I am happy that I could have the chance to be a part of the Pay It Forward scholarship and now the founder of the Wang Family Foundation. I am glad that now I have the chance to help talented people in China to achieve their dreams. I want my children to be involved in charity at an early age too. I hope they can appreciate the importance of paying it forward.

How do you select scholars you wish to sponsor?

My charity primarily focuses on science and medicine, so I choose talented Chinese students in that field. I talk to them regularly to get updates and also tell them the things William taught me, "if you become successful, pls don't pay it back but pay it forward and make the world better".

What message would you like to give for the applicants for your scholarship?

If your goal is to make the world better with the knowledge you will learn, we hope to help you achieve that dream.

What are your hobbies and interest at the moment?

I like investing in financial markets and spending time with my children.
